Notes & Reviews:

Melodiya presents concert recordings of conductor Charles Munch with the USSR State Orchestra. In 1962, after thirteen years with the Boston Symphony, Mr. Munch returned to France, visiting Moscow in May 1965 for only the second time. Working with outstanding western conductors was a rare opportunity for Soviet orchestra members; the collaboration coincided with a new, truly golden period in the orchestra's history. The album features recordings of fragments from Rameau's opera Dardanus, Debussy's La Mer, Roussel's Bacchus et Ariane, 2nd Suite, and Honegger's tragic Symphony No. 2.

American Record Guide, July/August 2015
That's just as well, because Rameau can sound dry and clipped when played by HIP groups. But this is beautiful, winning, and serves as a nice point of warmth, glow, and relaxation in an otherwise stirring and exciting concert. This sound is quite good for Melodiya - more natural than usual.
