Notes & Reviews:

Since the dawn of time, night and its mysteries have inspired poets and musicians. This recital for voice and piano recalls that: it is presented as a nocturnal promenade through diverse aesthetics, troubling atmospheres and profoundly contrasting emotions. The program features the known (Schubert, Brahms, Faure) and the lesser known (Bax, Finzi or Berkeley) to form a fascinating ode to the night.

American Record Guide, July/August 2015
Charlesworth has a light, sweet, lyric voice that is perfectly suited to these songs. He does a fine job of contrasting the voice of the maiden and death in Schubert's song. His exquisitive vocal control is especially evident in Liszt's 'Kling Leise, Mein Lied'. The program ends with Mendelssohn's lullaby 'So Schlaf in Ruh'. A surprising omission from the program is Schubert's 'Nacht und TrSume', a song that would fit his voice very well. Charlesworth's clarity of enunciation and proficiency of pronunciation in English, French, and German are excellent. Herchenroder's accompaniment is a perfect match for his singing. She catches nicely the sprightliness of the accompaniment in Brahms's 'StSnchen'.
