The Wilburn Brothers: The Wonderful Wilburn Brothers

Album Notes

Before signing to Decca, the Wilburns made some recordings for King Records, and 12 of those sides are collected here. The packaging offers no recording dates, session info, or liner notes, and the sound quality is poor. These tracks are unavailable elsewhere, though, which gives this disc a certain historical cache. The music is less polished and more acoustic than their later recordings, and there are a few standout tracks, including "Down in Dixie (Where They Say You-All)" and "Will You Be Ready (To Wear a Golden Crown)." Those with a specific interest in the Wilburn Brothers may enjoy these tracks despite the abysmal sound quality, but general listeners are advised to beware. ~ Greg Adams
