Notes & Reviews:

A special CD to mark the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, a turning point in English history. The plainchant and carols on this recording are some of the greatest glories of the medieval world. Their origins in the oral tradition make the surviving manuscripts, much like Magna Carta, especially precious.

American Record Guide, September/October 2015
The performances are all excellent since they are drawn from other recordings by Alamire or the women of Magdala. Four movements from the chant mass titled "de angelis" are generically medieval, and the late medieval carols are significantly later than the date of Magna Carta. Some of the other chants are from Corpus Christi, which was first celebrated at Liege in 1246 and in the whole Catholic church in 1264.
