Notes & Reviews:

Vespers is the ancient office of prayer, celebrated every evening throughout Christendom as the sun sets. Because of its place at the end of the day, Vespers has become a popular service and generated a rich tradition of choral music. The simple, contemplative atmosphere of the chanted psalms, sung to the sun's dying rays, transforms into glorious polyphony with the Magnificat, the motet and the closing Marian antiphon. Here, the music of composer and Sospiri director John Duggan is heard in context with additional music for Vespers from the Renaissance, sung by Sospiri with Chris Watson conducting.
