Notes & Reviews:

Navona Records' 'Elements Rising' highlights contemporary composers' innovative re-imaginings of the building blocks of music, such as melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics and timbre, then applying them to a number of duo and ensemble settings. Yves Ramette's Introduction et Allegro (1945) uses space, harmonic tension and texture to create a sense of brooding and propulsion. Fire Tiger by Steven Block combines structural unity and a consistent non-tonal language to convey emotional intensity. Works by Rain Worthington (2), Paula Diehl and Allen Brings complete the release.
