Notes & Reviews:

For his debut OehmsClassics release, Sebastian Noack has selected Lieder to poems of Heinrich Heine set to music by Robert Schumann. The 30 titles also include Dichterliebe as well as the four Lieder to texts by Justinus Kerner but withdrawn before these works went to press. An extensive text on the transpositions of the Lieder by Max Friedla¨nder (1852 - 1934) is in the accompanying booklet. Berlin-born Sebastian Noack studied voice at the Academy of the Arts in Berlin. Alongside his extensive concert and operatic activities, he is a guest professor at Berlin's Hanns Eisler Academy of Music.

American Record Guide, July/August 2015
Noack's program is almost 10 minutes longer and presents the music of one composer. His mellifluous tone and clean projection of the text in the Opus 24 Liederkreis gets the program off to a good start. He imparts enough of an ominous quality to the dramatic ballad 'Belsazar' to make it convincing. Dichterliebe's reading of the cycle overall is still convincing. The beauty of his voice carries the program. His singing of 'Dein Angesicht Meine Liebe' from Op. 127 and 'Mein Wagen Rollet Langsam' from Op. 142 is perfectly sublime. Singer and accompanist are of one mind and spirit in this whole program, and the quality of the recorded sound is excellent. Noack takes the higher note option and gets a more dramatic effect. Song does a better job of expressing the emotional turmoil of the songs. The two pianists are both fine, Deutsch has the edge. Good baritone readings of Dichterliebe abound. Trekel with Pohl (N/D 2007) is very good. Paul Althouse praised Keenleyside with Martineau (M/A 2010). Fischer-Dieskau's readings with any of his accompanists (Demus or Eschenbach on DG, Moore on Orfeo [S/O 2005]) will always be dear to me.
