Notes & Reviews:

Sunday Times, 5th April 2015
A first recording here for The Four Quarters (2011), a masterly reflection on the diurnal cycle that ends with the fantastical The Twenty-Fifth Hour...Each piece is full of memorable ideas and ingenious rhythmic and textural workings.

Financial Times, 21st March 2015
Part of the fascination of Thomas AdFs's chamber music is that it intrigues the mind with its science, while transporting the listener to imaginary places...The Calder Quartet perform all three with energy and sensitivity. Highly recommended.

'The Calder Quartet played the most insightful and moving performance of Thomas Adès's Arcadiana I have ever heard.' - The Guardian. Los Angeles based string quartet The Calder Quartet releases an album of works by Thomas Adès, including the British composer's first ever work for string quartet, Arcadiana; The Four Quarters and Adès's single movement Piano Quintet with Adès himself at the piano.

American Record Guide, September/October 2015
Thomas Ades writes dense, chromatic music. It isn't atonal. The themes are easy to recognize; the tone is usually personable. 'Serenade: Morning Dew', the second movement of the string quartet called The Four Quarters. III is a mostly legato movement that is very welcome at this point in the program.
