With its mix of smooth jazz, ambient shadings, and sultry Mediterranean rhythms, the New Age best-seller CAFÉ DE LUNA 2 is an excellent way to wind down at the end of a stress-filled day. The artists on this compilation borrow from the musical traditions of Mediterranean countries (there is also a distinctive North African flavor here), yet mix these elements with a laid back, head-nodding sensibility associated with lounge DJs.
Two lovely examples are Zingaia's "At the Window," with its expansive, dub-like atmosphere and lilting female vocal tag, and Alcyone's lightly funky "The Greatest Escape." While the music on CAFÉ DE LUNA 2 is beat-based, it is always soothing, and evokes balmy seascapes. The album's subtitle, MEDITERRANEAN CHILL, is certainly appropriate: the music helps transport the listener to a beach chair off the coast of Greece, the perfect place to watch the sunset with a cool drink in hand.
