Notes & Reviews:

Undervalued for a century and a half, the perfected joys of Mendelssohn's music for solo piano are further unearthed in this third volume of Hyperion's complete series featuring Howard Shelley. On this recording, fascinating early works sit happily alongside book four of the Songs without words and the wonderful Caprices of opus 33.

Gramophone Magazine, May 2015
Mendelssohn and Howard Shelley are a musical marriage made in heaven. Stylish and delectably light-fingered, Shelley makes a flawless case in Vol 3 of his [Complete Solo Piano Music of Mendelssohn]... if anyone can persuade us of Mendelssohn's quality, it is Shelley.

American Record Guide, September/October 2015
Shelley is at the point where he can just about select whatever he wants to record. Entering the complete Mendelssohn sweepstakes finds him in good company; few have chosen to record all the piano works. It is always written with skill, charm, and is satisfying for both performer and listener. The remainder of the program consists of Scherzos and Caprices with a single brief Etude in F minor and a Lied in F-sharp minor. It also presents us with a pianist perfectly attuned to the idiom and well able to take on the torrent of notes thrown at him by the composer. The booklet is wonderfully informative, the sound terrific. Three more volumes to go, and I look forward to them.
