Notes & Reviews:

Pentatone's newly released 10 SACD box of the complete symphonies of the Austro-German Romantic composer Anton Bruckner features the label's January-July 2015 "Orchestra of the Season", the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and their highly respected music director and conductor Marek Janowski, is a set with nothing less than stellar sound and stunningly consistent performances, as critical reception to these recordings has confirmed. Each symphony is allotted a single disc, with the tenth bonus disc featuring a performance of Bruckner's Mass No. 3 in F minor. Born in 1939 in Warsaw and educated in Germany, Marek Janowski's artistic path led him through several German postings in the 1970s, leading to his long music directorship tenure with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France (1984-2000), and other important appointments beyond. His recording of Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle with the Staatskapelle Dresden (1980-83) remains one of the most distinguished in the marketplace.

American Record Guide, July/August 2015
To sum it up, Janowski is one of the great Bruckner conductors, and this set is the best we've had in this century. There is no other set to match this. Nos. 1,2,4, and 7 are among the very best ever. In the words of John McKelvey, Janowski knows his Bruckner as well as anyone around.
