Something of a greatest-hits compilation for Henry Mancini, quite possibly the premier force in lounge music in the '60s and '70s, powered heavily also by his television and film compositions. As one would expect, many of the themes are here -- Peter Gunn, Pink Panther, Romeo and Juliet's theme, etc. Also included is perhaps his most famous composition (and most covered): "Moon River." For a fan of Mancini, the newer RCA collection of greatest hits might be a tiny bit more comprehensive, but most of the songs between the two albums are identical in the first place. For a newcomer, either album would serve as an introduction to the breadth of Mancini's talents. ~ Adam Greenberg
