Album Remarks & Appraisals:
These sublime solo piano improvisations pay tribute to music, poetry, painting and film: Couturier found international recognition as Anouar Brahem's pianist for a decade, performing on smash albums like Le Pas Du Chat Noir (ECM1792) and Le voyage de Sahar (ECM1915) before releasing 2007's sublime Nostalghia (ECM1979). Un Jour Si Blanc is a the second volume in a planned trilogy, and an extension of the earlier album, which was dedicated to filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. The new album references poets, musicians and painters including Bach, Debussy, Schubert, Takemitsu, Rimbaud, the painters of the Blaue Reiter group, Miro, and the classic jazz canon.
