Performer Ensemble Composers

Notes & Reviews:

The Italian Swiss ensemble Trio des Alpes wish, among other things, to revive unjustly neglected music works. Women Composers is one such project, the trio wishing to spread the works of 20th c. women composers, as well as commission new pieces by women composers. This new Dynamic is dedicated to three such women composers - Rebecca Clarke, Amy Beach and Lili Boulanger - and their too rarely heard works. These works for flute embody the late-Romanticism and early-Modernism ethos. The British-Italian soprano Lorna Windsor, very active in contemporary music circles, is heard in Ms. Beach opus.

Gramophone Magazine, August 2015
Clarke's 1921 Trio is the real revelation, a work of almost Bartokian asperity, tautly controlled and haunted by a reiterated, jabbing monotone that never lets the music or the listener settle... [the performance is] fluent, committed and wonderfully energetic throughout.

The qualities on this album of composers and performers is like watching JoAnn Falletta conduct when she's at her inspired best: gender evaporates from the scene and the breadth and power of expression expands to a universal level. Instrument and engineering limitations be damned! This is a deeply moving album.
