Notes & Reviews:

It is one of Russian music's many paradoxes that Alexaner Glazunov, who earned a reputation as the master of the well-made symphony, should have launched his career under the guidance of composers not conspicuous for their mastery of the symphonic form. It is Alexander Borodin's influence that looms large in the Twenty-one-year-old's remarkably mature Second Symphony of 1886.
