Yira YiraAlbum Remarks & Appraisals:
This collection combines classics such as "Caminito" and "Yira...Yira" with less well-known items such as "La violeta" and "Knock-out de amor." Those who heard Gardel sing had a favorite saying: "Cada dia canta mejor" - "He sings better every day." Recordings are from 1927 through 1930.
Album Notes
Personnel: Carlos Gardel (vocals).
Tango's greatest singer, Carlos Gardel is represented on this 29-track collection featuring recordings from 1927-1930. Gardel is considered the bridge that transformed the tango, initially considered vulgar, into a cultural treasure. When he died in a plane crash in 1935, the loss created mass hysteria in Argentina, not experienced since. This set provides a respectable overview from this later phase in the career of the songbird of Buenos Aires. ~ Al Campbell
