A Betty Comden-Adolph Greene stage musical with music by Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity, City of Angels), On the 20th Century is based on the 1934 Howard Hawks screwball comedy film Twentieth Century, itself scripted by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur. With all that quality wit behind it, expect to be entertained by a story about industry egos involving a high-strung Hollywood actress and financially troubled theater producer. The show opened on Broadway in 1978 with Imogene Coca, John Collum, and Madeline Kahn. Its first Broadway revival began previews at the American Airlines Theater in February 2015, and is captured on this PS Classics recording with the star-studded cast of Kristin Chenoweth, Peter Gallagher, Mary Louise Wilson, and Mark Linn-Baker. Released in May of 2015 with several dialogue tracks and cues included, On the 20th Century's highlights include the Chenoweth-Gallagher duet "I've Got It All" and Chenoweth dance number "Babette." ~ Marcy Donelson
