Album Remarks & Appraisals:
When one thinks of common jazz instruments, the French horn and the bassoon don't immediately come to mind. But then, there's nothing common about the playing of John Clark and Michael Rabinowitz, who team up as the frontline of the Odd Couple Quintet, all of whose members are long-term associates of John Clark, a 40 year NYC scene veteran. For their first recording, the Odd Couple Quintet performs Clark's adaptations of Mozart's Horn Concertos #3 and #4 and a pair of shorter numbers. The Horn Concertos are familiar to classical French horn players but have never been heard before in this format.
Personnel: John Clark (French horn); Freddie Bryant (guitar); Michael Rabinowitz (bassoon); Pete Levin (keyboards); Abe Fogle (drums).
Liner Note Author: Scott Yanow.
Directors: Dan Cooper; Milica Paranosic; Gene Pritsker.
