Notes & Reviews:

For centuries the Christian Church has exerted a powerful influence on choral composition, nurturing and continuing to inspire works that are spiritually oriented or which fulfill a devotional function. Spanning over 300 years of music, from the sacred ritual of Allegri's Miserere to the prayerful intensity of Górecki's Totus tuus, this release brings together some of the finest and most affecting compositions in the Western choral tradition, complemented by Renaissance paintings from the National Gallery depicting various scenes from the equally captivating story of the Passion of Christ.
