Notes & Reviews:

It is surely right to term Niels W. Gade (1817-90) the father of Danish music. He enjoyed a career not only as a composer and educator but also as the conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra. His chamber music accounts for four of the almost forty total volumes forming the complete edition of his works, on which this first volume of his complete chamber compositions recorded here are based. The eleven young, ambitious, dedicated and award-winning musicians of the chamber music-specializing Ensemble MidtVest, founded 2002, have all graduated from some of the world's best conservatories.

American Record Guide, November/December 2015
The Midtvest Ensemble presents Gade's Sextet, which is a much richer and more dramatic work than the early quartet. Its character might be described as heroic. The slowest movement is III, marked andantino, which has a rather tense middle section. II is a Scherzo, which I think shows the influence of Mendelssohn, who was a friend of Gade. IV is marked allegro, molto vivace. The Trio is gentler than the Sextet, but more spirited than the Quartet. It has attractive themes and a nice flow.
