One of the most remembered figures of "Les Six", Francis Poulenc lives on not so much in the concert hall. His chamber music is the subject of two new releases: a 2006 recording by faculty members of the University of Iowa that presents his entire catalog of works for woodwinds, horn, and piano and a 2013 project headed by renowned French pianist Pascal Roge that includes his wife Ami Roge, the brothers Michel and Pascal Moragues of the Orchestre National de France and Orchestre de Paris, and active chamber musician Elmria Darvarova and Liang Wang and Howard Wall of the New York Philharmonic.

The University of Iowa production includes the virtuosic Sextet for wind quintet and piano (1931, rev. 1940), the Trio for oboe, bassoon, and piano (1926), the Flute Sonata (1957), the Oboe Sonata (1962), and the Clarinet Sonata (1962). Two miniatures round out the program - the 'Elegy'for horn and piano, written in memory of British horn virtuoso Dennis Brain, who perished in a car accident in September 1957, and the 'Villanelle' for piccolo and piano, published as part of Pipeaux, a 1934 collection of short instrumental pieces by several composers.
