Trombone master Steve Davis pays tribute to the music of legendary jazz trombonist and brilliant composer J.J. Johnson, including rare Johnson gems as well as perhaps his most famous composition, "Lament." Selections include rare J.J. Johnson gems "Pinnacles," "Shortcake," "Say When," and "Kenya." Also features Harold Mabern's energetic dedication "Mr. Johnson," John Coltrane's "Village Blues," and J.J.'s arrangement of "When the Saints Go Marching In." All-star sextet includes legendary trumpeter Eddie Henderson, tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, bassist Nat Reeves, drummer Joe Farnsworth, and pianist Harold Mabern (in J.J.'s band in the mid-'60s).
