Reviews

Astonishing and revelatory!
Researching posts on piano trios on Google Groups I ran across a rave review of this recording. Since Schubert's piano trios are among my favorite chamber compositions I couldn't resist ordering this recording. This 2-CD set arrived yesterday and after listening twice to the E-flat trio I easily rate it one of my favorite chamber music recordings ever, and one of my favorite Schubert recordings, and I have many. I have excellent performances of this music by Stern-Istomin-Rose and Archibudelli, but I prefer Gaia Scienza to both. They play with bracing, exhilarating energy, and their "original instruments" are recorded with wonderful presence and transparency. I am thinking of buying a few more of these as gifts.
