Notes & Reviews:

This live recording made on January 31st, 2002 at the Liceu Theater in Barcelona is already a cornerstone of any Monteverdi discography. Previously only available on DVD from Opus Arte, this multi-channel SACD version reveals the full scale of Jordi Savall's inspiration. Beautifully executed by La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Le Concert des Nations and a cast of soloists that includes Furio Zanasi, Sara Mingardo and the late Monteserrat Figueras, this is a release to treasure.

The Observer, 14th June 2015
Savall's performance is bold and full-bodied, especially in the warm choral singing and orchestral playing. The soloists are more variable, often placed far back in the sonic picture...the finest singing is from Sara Mingardo as a plangent Messenger.

Early Music Review, 1st July 2015
The singing and playing is of a very high standard.

Gramophone Magazine, September 2015
Savall's ideas may not satisfy everyone, but there's never a hint of formulaic complacency, and this live performance is an engaging alternative view to experience alongside the best studio versions.

Early Music Today, March/May 2016
This is an opulent L'Orfeo rich in drama and contrast; the complete musico-dramatic article, utterly engrossing. Savall achieves a nigh-pefect balance between ravishing resonance and sound on the one hand, and gripping, pacey narrative on the other ... a sumptuous production that must have been the ticket of the year.
