Notes & Reviews:

Edvard Grieg first met Percy Grainger in London in 1906 and the two became good friends, Grieg inviting the 'Young Apollo' to spend the summer of 1907 with him at Troldhaugen where they revised the famous Piano Concerto in A minor. Their alterations resulted in the last edition "sanctioned by Grieg himself", a version which enhances clarity and prevents undesirable self-indulgence from the performers. Norwegian composer Helge Evju's Piano Concerto takes up the challenge to compose a work based on incomplete concerto fragments by Grieg, creating a romantic and beautiful companion concerto full of 'noble passion'.

American Record Guide, November/December 2015
I must part with the composer and Grainger and state my preference for performances that make use of the dreaded rubato. Petersson, while thoroughly competent, strikes me. "Competent" is also the word I would use to describe the playing of the orchestra and leadership of conductor Kerry Stratton. Their efforts on behalf of Evju come off far more interesting than in the real Grieg.

So, what we have here is a mixed bag. Add to it Evju's performance of his transcription of two Grieg songs, and we have a fascinating oddity that works pretty well. Buy it if you have the money, but definitely listen to it if you can.
