Notes & Reviews:

Mozart Year 2006 - An all-Mozart Programme with Barenboim in his familiar dual role as soloist and conductor featuring two masterpieces of the Mozart repertoire, the 'Haffner' and 'Linz' Symphonies. The Berlin Philharmonic sitting onstage in a reconstruction of the sets that had been used at the first performance of 'Don Giovanni'.

For over 20 years the Berliner Philharmoniker have celebrated their foundation anniversary on May 1 with the annual Europa Konzert. The 2006 event in at the Theatre of the Estates in Prague featured an all-Mozart program with Daniel Barenboim in his familiar dual role as soloist and conductor. Two masterpiece Mozart symphonies, the "Haffner" and the "Linz" are spotlighted.

The third Europakonzert is certainly presented by the location and program, the most original. In 1998, Claudio Abbado and his musicians indeed chose to settle in the beautiful Vasa Museum in Stockholm, whose name comes from a huge galleon seventeenth century, after sinking when it is afloat, was refloated in the 1950s and now restored to proudly enthroned in the museum of the Swedish capital. The Opening of the Flying Dutchman by Wagner reveals all its drama, particularly through the English horn Dominik Wollenweber (which is also very much in demand in the Nocturnes of Debussy). The cameras offer again a wide variety of plans and dismal play on the silhouette of the ship which are backed Berliner. Currently the most successful probably lies in the four sacred pieces by Verdi, composer with whom Abbado has obvious affinities: the fourth, the "Te Deum" is particularly moving, the two choirs gathered here is a cohesion and a reactivity foolproof. The public is also somewhat stunned and applauded by seeing Abbado rise to the orchestra then yes, it was a great Europakonzert !
