Notes & Reviews:
"This September 1967 performance from Tokyo is a remarkable treasure. Call the production "traditional" or "old-fashioned", but it does nothing to distract from the singers. Neither does the "park and bark" staging. The acting is "operatic melodrama". But just let the singers sing. And do they ever! This is Scotto singing at her best in the repertoire that suited her best. She spins out line after line, phrase after phrase, of exquisite purity and sensitivity. Her singing is precisely detailed and musical, never calculating... At the mid-way point of the 'Mad Scene' the audience stops the show with three minutes of applause (which she graciously acknowledges - and the flute player too)... The entire remarkable performance is available from VAI." -American Record Guide
