Notes & Reviews:
Director Laurent Pelly has entertained Parisians with a string of successful comic opera productions. This new 'L'Elisir d'amore' from Bel Air is delightfully fresh and vibrant. It is set in a manner reminiscent of Italian cinema of the 50s and 60s. The simple sets – stacks of hay bales; fields rolling off into the distance and a lone water tower – are bathed in a nostalgic golden hue. For "Una furtive lagrima," the stars of the night sky are created with bare light-bulbs on wires. Heidi Grant Murphy plays Adina to Ambrogio Maestri’s Dulcamara in this fascinating HD video production from the Opera national de Paris, conducted by Edward Gardner.
