Album Remarks & Appraisals:
A powerful Chinese emperor is looking for a wife capable of ensuring offspring. One day, while walking in the rice fields, he hears a sublime sound: a melody played by a peasant on a sheng (a Chinese reed instrument). Bewitched, he immediately decides to take the girl as his wife, but she is already promised to another... and the woman and the instrument are not so easy to tame. This story is the third volume in Little Village's series of recordings where musical instruments are the heroes. Lavishly illustrated, the book also includes information about the instrument heard in the tale. The music accompanying this story was composed and performed by Wu Wei, a master of the sheng.
