Notes & Reviews:
Issued for the first time in the West, from the archives of the state owned Melodiya label, this recording of the world-famous Borodin Quartet features three chamber works by Haydn and Mozart: Haydn's `Lark` Quartet in D Major (Op. 64 No. 5), Mozart's String Quartet No. 15, and the Quintet in A for Clarinet and String Quartet (featuring clarinetist Ivan Mozgovenko).
One of the few Soviet groups given permission to play outside the USSR, the Borodin Quartet became internationally famous through concerts and recordings and they became particularly associated with the works of Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky.
