Notes & Reviews:

Deborah Voigt stars in the title role of Puccini's wild west opera - in a spectacular performance seen live in cinemas worldwide as part of the Metropolitan Opera 'Live in HD' series.

The opera rests on three demanding central roles; the saloon owner Minnie, the handsome stranger Dick Johnson (Marcello Giordani) and the menacing Sheriff Jack Rance (Lucio Gallo). The high-point of the drama is a poker game between Minnie and Rance in which Puccini winds up the musical tension before delivering a shattering dramatic climax.

Giancarlo Del Monaco's richly authentic production, with spectacular sets by Michael Scott, brings the wild west to the Met stage with a panorama of colorful characters and live horses!

The opera was premiered at the Met in 1910.

The New York Times
I cannot think of a soprano who can sing any better this demanding role. What wins you over is Voigt's deep feeling for the character.

The New York Times
Thanks in large part to the stylish, nuanced and sensitive conducting of Nicola Luisotti, the score emerged as arguably Puccini's most subtly written and boldly modern music.
