Notes & Reviews:

Founded by flutist Marya Martin in 1984, the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival is pleased to release the world premiere recording of a BCMF co-commission from Howard Shore – a song cycle, A Palace Upon the Ruins, featuring mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano, and the rarely heard Alan Boustead reconstruction of Brahms' original instrumentation for his Serenade No. 1. The recording reflects the Festival's continuing commitment to the promotion and documentation of seminal chamber works, including those it has premiered or commissioned. Produced by Grammy award winner Adam Abeshouse.

American Record Guide, November/December 2015
The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival was founded in 1989 and makes it home in eastern Long Island. This recording was made in their 2014 season and includes a new song cycle for mezzo and five instrumentalists by Howard Shore co-commissioned by the BCMF and the La Jolla Music Society. The other work is an arrangement of Brahms's first serenade for nine instruments. This serenade, begun in 1857, was originally for eight or nine instruments. This recorded version for nonet, then, is Alan Boustead's best approximation of Brahms's original score. And it is a very fine arrangement.
