Notes & Reviews:

James Piorkowski is a multi-faceted musician who performs as a soloist, is passionate about chamber music, actively composes, arranges, and records, all while serving as a professor of guitar studies, and the program’s head since 1983, at Fredonia State Univ. He was a two-decade member of the now disbanded Buffalo Guitar Quartet that Guitar Player Magazine formerly deemed “one of the world's premiere classical guitar ensembles.” Recorded on school grounds, with one exception, between 2010-13, Nine: The Guitar and Beyond, is a collection of original works written by Mr. Piorkowski.

American Record Guide, March/April 2016
The good will here is intense - I just wish I warmed to the music more. He never seems to struggle with any passages - they were, after all, written by him and for him. His sound is pleasant. The choral writing reminds me of several modern choral composers like Rene Clausen. The Fredonia Chamber Singers have a lovely sound. The best writing here is his piece for the ANA Trio (Haas, Forny, and Harper, the name from their first initials). The text is a lament for people lost in an airplane crash in 2009. It was the only moment I felt truly moved. This is for people interested in guitar in unusual combinations.
