Notes & Reviews:

Founded in 1999 Écho du Danube’s festival and concerts programs often include rediscoveries based on intensive research and library work, an often exciting as well as laborious but important aspect of its musical existence and as the source of new inspiration. The ensemble formations vary from duo or trio to twenty persons or more based on the work requirements. On cpo the ensemble here offers a multifaceted program of spirited and fresh music from 16th-17th c. Neapolitan composers with lavish instrumental resources including the salterio and baroque percussion instruments.

American Record Guide, March/April 2016
In this very fine program, the Echo du Danube ensemble enters completely into the spirit of the music: the psaltery in particular brings a sparkling, otherworldly, magical quality that mimics the sleight-of-hand of a conjurer in the midst of creating. In fact, as we learn from the booklet notes. Soprano Hannah Morrison sings evocatively with expressive, beguiling charm; and all seven instrumentalists in Echo du Danube are most expert, energetic, and sensitive. The six short instrumental pieces by Antonio Valente, Gregorio Strozzi, and Andrea Falconieri are perfectly chosen not only to complement and frame the vocal pieces, but also as fine examples of the chromaticism, invention, and vitality that are hallmarks of music in Naples. Notes, bios, texts, translations - all are in the booklet with no need to hunt on a website. Thank you, CPO.
