Notes & Reviews:

The present CD comprises a selection from the popular miniatures of romantic cello literature. However, the concept of romanticism has been slightly extended to also include into this imaginary club Kodly's and Rachmaninov's lyrical pieces. It is interesting to note that the order of the pieces constitutes a kind of "bridge- form". Schumann's works (Adagio und Allegro, Op. 70 as well as Fantasiestcke, Op. 73) represent the opening and concluding items. Proceeding inwards pieces by Faur can be heard (Elgie, Op. 24, then in succession Papillons and Aprs une rve, Op. 7 No. 1). At the rising and falling arch of the bridge-form a work each by Kodly can be found: Romance lyrique and the famous Adagio. The middle section is occupied by Mendelssohn's Song without word Op. 109 No. 4, Saint-Sans's Allegro appassionato, Op. 43, and Rahmanyinov's popular Vocalise (arranged by Leonard Rose, Op. 34. No. 14).

American Record Guide, March/April 2016
This is a family affair where the cellist is accompanied by his mother. The program is built in the form of a circle surrounded by Schumann, the second from both ends Faur, etc. The music includes some of the most popular cello pieces played with love. One can hardly expect a cellist as young as Devich appears to be to have a mature depth of expression. As it is, his tone is lovely and his intonation excellent. If you wish to hear all of these popular romantic cello pieces pulled together in a circle, by all means come in and sit down.
