Album Remarks & Appraisals:
The past tense is important in “SOKO Steidle Played Duke Ellington,” because of course all four musicians have played Ellington sometime - not on this CD, however. “We wanted to name the CD as if we had played Ellington,” says drummer Soko Steidle. From “In A Sentimental Mut”, “Flush Life” or “Felse Mich im Rhythmus” (crude translation of "Rocking' in Rhythm") all tracks are in fact originals by the quartet. “The band's sound is defined by the fact that we’ve played together for about ten years,” says Oliver Steidle. “This means things are going, intuitively not calculatedly.
