Notes & Reviews:

The Genevan violin virtuoso and composer Gaspard Fritz (1716-83) studied in Turin with G.B. Somis, a pupil of Corelli and himself a teacher of other well-known violin virtuosi. It is known that some of Fritz's published "Trios, Solos and Concertos" were shown to Piero Locatelli in England in the early 1740s; duly impressed, he promptly played through them. Founded in 2004 by Latvian-born musicians, all graduates of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the Kesselberg Ensemble, led by their artistic director Ilze Grudule, has performed in Latvia, Germany and Switzerland.
