Notes & Reviews:

Both Sea Drift (1903-04) and Songs of Sunset (1906-07) belong to the fertile first decade of the 20th c. when Frederick Delius assumed complete maturity, producing a string of masterpieces. Sea Drift explores the emotions of bereavement in the wake of tragedy, Songs of Sunset the brevity of life. Composed by Delius when he was blind, crippled and helpless, Songs of Farewell (1929-30), for double chorus and orchestra, is the finest achievement of his late harvest. Recorded in 1993, this Chandos re-release, featuring Bryn Terfel, honors the legacy of the late English conductor Sir Richard Hickox.
