Notes & Reviews:

During his last decade of life, Francis Poulenc wrote three chamber sonatas, including one for flute, that more than anything else cemented his reputation as one of the most important of 20th c. composers. The main work on this CD, it comes accompanied by a bunch of charmingly old-fashioned virtuoso pieces by Doppler, Chaminade and Hüe, whose Fantasie (1913) was composed as a set piece for that year's Paris Conservatoire flute competition. Miyagi's Haru no Umo (The Sea in Spring) was originally written for Koto and bamboo flute. Played by Japanese flutist Junko Ukigaya and pianist Miyuki Motoi.
