Notes & Reviews:

This collection of unique masterpieces by Jenö Hubay, Leó Weiner, Zóltan Kodály, Károly Goldmark, Ernst von Dohnányi, Béla Bartók and Leopold Auer, played by violinist Key-Thomas Märkl and pianist Angelika Merkle, present some of the most important and influential of Hungarian composers. The passionate music features haunting melodies mingled with virtuosic passages, opening a window into the Hungarian soul. These jewels of the violin and piano repertoire, at once exceptionally attractive yet relatively unknown, paint a vivid and intimate picture of Hungarian romantic music.

American Record Guide, March/April 2016
Here are two very good players with solid flawless technique, plenty of sensitive nuance, and a grasp of structure enhanced by a gift for flexibility and flow that wraps each piece into a united whole. American-trained Key-Thomas Mrkl, who turns 53 this year, has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony since 1990. Angelika Merkle (her age remains top secret [she's European!], but she's pushing 50) is a professor at Frankfurt's Academy of Music.
