Chick Corea and Gary Burton collaborated on the highly successful 1972 album, CRYSTAL SILENCE. A result of a subsequent teaming up toward the end of that same decade, DUET is another friendly and engaging set of piano and vibraphone pieces. The bulk of the material was written by Chick Corea and includes four selections from his large body of melodically straightforward numbers, all called "Children's Song" and followed by a number.
The pair also performs a couple of numbers by musical compatriot Steve Swallow. "Radio" and "Never" are both inviting, folk-like songs that are apt choices. "La Fiesta" closes the album and revisits the Spanish-tinged motifs Corea has explored regularly as a composer. As always with ECM, the sound is crystalline elegant, retaining the innate warmth of the piano and the cool metallic gloss of the vibes.
