Notes & Reviews:

Painstaking work has identified not just the principal operatic arias composed with castrato Luigi Marchesi (1754-1829) in mind, but also his special and astonishing brand of ornamentation and worked-out cadenza, developed in the course of a five-decade career. The Swedish mezzo Ann Hallenberg, Stile Galante and Stefano Aresi venture wholeheartedly into the musical mind of this extraordinary star of late opera seria in a vivid recreation backed not only by meticulous attention to historical detail but by access to some two hundred contemporary accounts of the singer's music-making.

Early Music Review, Oxtober 2015
Another winner from the excellent Ann Hallenberg ... She gives us a breathtaking display of vocal fireworks - long perfectly-even semiquaver runs, spot-on arpeggios, and precisely tuned huge leaps - but with the added scholarly spice of them being either written-out or inspired by Marchesi himself ... Stile Galante supply superbly energetic orchestral support.

Gramophone Magazine, October 2015
Hallenberg's powers of supple precision, melodic sweetness, flawless coloratura and expressive pathos are on compelling form.

BBC Music Magazine, December 2015
There is perhaps no singer better able to meet this challenge than Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg: her rich timbre, the evenness of her register and the precision of her intonation evoke Marchesi's vocal qualities convincingly. She delivers cadenzas and diminutions with careless ease.

BBC Music Magazine, December 2015
[Biondi's] insistence on intimacy is underpinned by an alert period band - with fortepiano added to the ensemble - and smallish chorus. Instrumentally the reading constantly refreshes listening ears, imbuing Bellini's famously spare orchestration with tender Romanticism, drawing the pacing out of the notes rather than imposing it on the drama.

Gramophone Magazine, November 2015
There is plenty to please in Europa Galante's performance... [Farcas's] light, silvery soprano lends a fragility to her character that Anna Netrebko doesn't always manage... Biondi certainly draws some exciting sounds from Europa Galante, lively woodwinds and thunderous timpani injecting tangy period-instrument flavours to proceedings.
