Notes & Reviews:

Recorded live at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall over a period of decades, this 9 CD boxed set features selections o Mahler's symphonies and provides an extraordinary audio document of the long and fertile relationship between conductor Klaus Tennstedt and the London Philharmonic Orchestras as they travel through the rich landscape of Mahler's symphonies. While each symphony in this boxed set has been previously released on the LPO label to critical acclaim, an earlier performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 2, recorde din 1981 is exclusive to this collection. The box set also includes a 45 page booklet featuring archive images, press cuttings and anecdotes as well as accompanying annotations and programme notes. Packaged in a specially designed clamshell box, this will appeal to collectors and Mahler completists. The collection also features performances from soloists including Thomas Hampson, Heather Harper, Doris Sofel, Julia Varady, Jane Eaglen, Susan Bullock, Trudeliese Schmidt and more.
