Notes & Reviews:

Following journeys through the music of Mozart and Verdi in recent years, Rolando now brings us a stunning collection of songs from the Romantic bel canto period - miniature gems penned by Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini and Verdi - originally scored for piano accompaniment and presented here for the first time in new arrangements for orchestra.

The album features popular hit tracks such as Rossini's "La danza", Bellini's "Malinconia, ninfa gentile" and "Vaga luna", as well as a delightful Rossini duet (Les Amants de Séville) with none other than 5-time Grammy award-winner Cecilia Bartoli.

Undoubtedly one of the finest, most charismatic and recognizable tenors in the world of opera, Rolando continues to go from strength to strength. His varied and rich recording career has brought rave reviews for performances within all sorts of styles - from traditional opera aria repertoire to Baroque, Mexican and, more recently, noted collections of arias by Verdi and Mozart. All of this whilst holding down a top international opera house career in some of the finest venues of the world.

BBC Music Magazine, December 2015
There's elegant tone and line in Verdi's 'Il mistero' and the vocal flamboyance you expect from an Italian-style tenor in 'Torna, vezzosa Fillide'. For many the appearance of Cecilia Bartoli as a duetting guest in Rossini's seductive 'Les amants de Seville' will be a welcome bonus.

American Record Guide, March/April 2016
Most are familiar with treasures of the bel canto opera repertoire. Villazon sings five songs each by Bellini, Donizetti, and Rossini; four by Verdi. Only one is familiar ('La Danza'). Originally composed with piano accompaniment, here they are performed in new arrangements for orchestra. Robert Sadin has arranged 9 songs, Daniel Barnidge 5, Efrain Oscher 2. All are quite appropriate and tasteful. Appropriate and tasteful are also the words to describe Villazon's singing - also, exquisite, attractive, full-voiced, and enthusiastic.

The other Rossini songs ('L'esule', 'La lontananza')are taken from his Peches de Viellesse collection. For the duet 'Tirana' Villazon is joined by mezzo Cecilia Bartoli.

The four Bellini songs are all gentle, slow, melancholy melodies dripping with morbidezza.Donizetti's 'Amor Funesto' could just as well be from his Lucia di Lammermoor, melancholy with a prominent harp in the orchestra. There is a feeling of strength in 'Il Sospiro'. The French text of 'La Mere et l'enfant' brings a more solid, more adventurous melody. Verdi's songs are more hearty, rhythmically more propulsive, more in a popular vein. Texts in Italian, German, and English.
