Notes & Reviews:
The 17th c. 'lament' is exemplified by Dido's Lament in Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. This CDs extraordinary, tormented musical journey leads us from Monteverdi's Mantua to Strozzi's Venice, from Corelli's Roma to Martini's Bologna. We are then transported to England, home of Purcell and Händel, exploring very different styles of madrigals, cantatas and opera alongside other genres of instrumental music. The common theme is the sublime human expression: crying for love. The Accademia degli Astrusi, directed by Federico Ferri, support the extraordinary soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci.
