Notes & Reviews:

Jonas Kaufmann's first album of all Puccini repertoire. The world's greatest tenor sings arias from the world's most-loved opera composer. Featuring world-famous arias from Turandot, Tosca, Manon Lescaut, La Bohème, Madame Butterfly and more. Performing a selection of Puccini arias at the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, that will be broadcast to millions as part of the worldfamous finale of the BBC Proms in September. Kaufmann will be performing the role of Des Grieux in Puccini's Manon Lescaut at The Metropolitan Opera in early 2016.

After years of singing Giacomo Puccini's heroes on stage to vast critical and audience acclaim, "the world's greatest tenor" (The Daily Telegraph), Jonas Kaufmann, finally records an album entirely devoted to the world's most-loved opera composer. The new album, Nessun dorma is a selection of Puccini's stupendous tenor arias drawn from his greatest opera's including Tosca, Manon Lescaut, La Bohème, Madame Butterfly and La fanciulla del West. Spanning the breadth of Puccini's output from the early operas Le Villi and Edgar, the album culminates in the mighty aria "Nessun dorma" from his final opera Turandot. Jonas Kaufmann is joined on this album by Maestro Antonio Pappano, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and soprano Kristine Opolais. Nessun Dorma - The Puccini Album is also available on 180-gram vinyl and on CD as a Deluxe Edition with a bonus DVD that includes an EPK plus excerpts from upcoming DVD releases Manon Lescaut and La Fanciulla del West.

Munich-born singer, Jonas Kaufmann, is without a doubt at the absolute top echelon of the operatic world. He is in extreme demand with the world's most influential conductors, selling out opera houses and concert venues months in advance wherever he performs. In 2011, he received the Opera News Award in New York and was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France. He has been awarded "Singer of the Year" by many prestigious journals including ECHO Klassic and Musical America. Kaufmann is also an internationally sought-after concert and lieder singer. In October of 2011 he performed the first solo recital to be given at the Metropolitan Opera since Luciano Pavarotti in 1994.

The Observer, 6th September 2015
All the operas (except the all-female Suor Angelica) are represented, ending with a pinging, thrilling Nessun Dorma. It's as far from Pavarotti as you can get, yet still captures the essence of Puccini.

The Times, 11th September 2015
On stage he is remarkably invested in character and text, in other words in being somebody else rather than himself. The best of Nessun Dorma - and Kaufmann's best is peerless - shows how well he can do that even on record, assisted by the vivid playing of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome under Antonio Pappano.

Financial Times, 18th September 2015
Although he does not sound very Italian, Kaufmann draws strength from staying true to himself, a gloriously bronze-voiced German tenor, welding musicianship with smouldering emotion...Pappano and his Santa Cecilia orchestra fire up every track with native Italian passion.

Gramophone Magazine, November 2015
Kaufmann's reassuringly expensive-sounding voice finding luxurious and ardent support from Antonio Pappano and his Santa Cecilia Orchestra... Dick Johnson suits his poetico-heroic manner well... and there are few quibbles with Kaufmann in the title track, delivered (as the disc's finale) with his trademark purring, mahogany-tinged tone and rising to a ringing top B.
