Notes & Reviews:

Internationally renowned mezzo soprano and arts advocate Jennifer Rivera teams up with Grammy winning composers as well as beloved "A Prairie Home Companion" host and author / poet Garrison Keillor for her debut solo album of never before recorded, contemporary American art song. The CD features two newly commissioned song sets; "The Garrison Keillor Songs" by Robert Aldridge and "The Divine Image" by Herschel Garfein with text by William Blake. Also included is Jorge Martin's "A Cuban in Vermont" and two songs by Emmy Winner Glen Roven. Grammy nominee Jennifer Rivera, who has sung at opera houses around the world including The Berlin Staatsoper, the Teatro Regio di Torino, and The New York City Opera, is joined by award winning collaborative pianist Myra Huang.

American Record Guide, March/April 2016
The title of the program refers not only to Herschel Garfein's settings of seven William Blake poems in The Divine Image, which concludes the program; it also refers to Jennifer Rivera's reflections on the life changes she went through while making this recording.

The program begins with Keillor Songs, five settings of poems by Garrison Keillor - a sonnet, a prayer, and three texts about sex that become increasingly and hilariously frank. A Cuban in Vermont with texts and music by Jorge Martin reflects on the meaning of family and home. Two Millay Songs by Glen Roven depict the delight and anguish of romance.

This is highly accessible music performed by artists of exceptional ability. Rivera has fun with these songs, especially the Keillor Songs. Her radiant and luxurious voice brings them to life brilliantly. Huang's collaboration is exemplary.
