Notes & Reviews:

Of all the early nineteenth-century guitar virtuosi, none was more renowned than the Italian composer and guitarist Mauro Giuliani. ON this newly recorded collection are works of demanding virtuosity, charming elegance and continual melodic invention.

The present recording continues the exploration of his music with the beautiful solo pieces Sonata Op. 15, Variations on a Theme by Handel Op. 107, Grand Sonata Eroica Op. 150, plus the multi-movement chamber works for violin and guitar (Op. 25 Duo Concertante, Op. 52 Gran Duo concertante, and Op. 127 Serenade); and finally the lovely song cycle, Sei Cavatine Op. 39.

Baroque guitarist Richard Savino is a principal performer with the Santa Fe Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and has appeared with Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Connecticut Early Music Festival, Milano classica, Ensemble Rebel and the Aston Magna Music Festival. He has performed in recital with some of the world's most important musicians, including mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. Violinist Stephanie Chase, a top medalist of the prestigious VII international Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, has performed concerts with over 170 orchestras in twenty-five countries spanning the globe throughout the world and is a recipient of the esteemed Avery Fisher Career Grant. Soprano Jennifer Ellis Kampani is emerging as one of the leading interpreters of the Baroque repertoire performing all over the world, recently making her debuts with the Washington Bach Consort, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and the New York Collegium with Andre Parrott conducting.

Gramophone
... if this disc does not persuade you that Giuliani's music merits your attention, then nothing will.

Fanfare Magazine
Savino plays with grace, insight, and a limpid tone and touch that suit the music admirably.
