Original Soundtrack: Hetalia: Character CD 2, Vol.4 [Original Soundtrack]

Album Notes

Hetalia is an interesting television concept: an animated comedic high school drama with the characters directly embodying the countries involved in WWII. Given its popularity, each character has had a mini-album devoted to him, with music representative of their culture, by way of the show, by way of Japanese pop. For England's album, the set opens with Noriyaki Sugiyama in something of a hybrid mode between contemporary J-Pop and '70s-era British punk. An outstanding start to something purporting to encapsulate elements of Britain. A follow-up has a bit more Indian, nearly Bollywood styling to it, but somehow finds a chorus of "Fish and-a Chips" to hold the British theme before turning back to Bollywood and nautical themes. Included on the mini-album after that are instrumentals of the same songs (with somewhat less excitement) and a lengthy bit of dialogue directly from the show. Fans should be thrilled, but others should probably give this one a pass. ~ Adam Greenberg
