Notes & Reviews:

The two Sextet for Strings by Johannes Brahms, performed by the world renowned - and Gramophone Award winning - string quartet The Lindsays. The Lindsays were formed in the mid-1960s at the Royal Academy of Music and spent the next four decades performing, teaching, recording, and travelling the world. They are Peter Cropper (first violin), Ronald Birks (second violin), Robin Ireland (viola), and Bernard Gregor-Smith, and on this recording are joined by Louise Williams and Paul Watkins (viola and cello, respectively). This 2004 recording is one of their last, as they disbanded in 2005.

Gramophone
Revelling in the work's glorious fullness, but of course The Lindsays and colleagues are able to put heart and soul into the music while keeping a careful control of the overall balance. Wholehearted character of the playing is a big advantage. (They all) delight us with a range of the most beautiful, transparent sonorities... Both sextets have a compelling sense of direction - in the Second's magnificent first movement, we can feel what a giant young Brahms had become.
